When you open SAS files in Windows Explorer, the files might open in SAS 8.2 instead of SAS 9.2. This problem occurs on computers that have both SAS 8.2 and SAS 9.2 installed. To fix this problem, you can use the SAS File Type Management Tool to associate most SAS file extensions so that they open in SAS 9.2.
To access the SAS File Type Management Tool, select Start ► All Programs ► SAS ► SAS 9.2 License Renewal & Utilities ► Manage SAS File Types. For more information about this tool, see SAS Note 37192, "Reassociating file type extensions with SAS® Enterprise Guide® or SAS® Foundation."
When you use the SAS File Type Management Tool to associate the .sas7bdat file extension with SAS 9.2, the SAS data sets might still be associated with SAS 8.2 instead of SAS 9.2. To work around this problem, in Windows Explorer you can set the default action for SAS files with a .sas7bdat extension to open with SAS 9.2. This action also associates the data sets with SAS 9.2.
In Windows XP, follow these steps to associate the .sas7bdat extension to open with SAS 9.2:
